Mika Singh filed a petition in the Bombay High Court to dismiss a 2006 First Information Report (FIR) and chargesheet accusing Rakhi Sawant of molesting him. The court, comprising Justices AS Gadkari and SG Dige, granted the dismissal based on the petition, as Singh and Sawant had amicably and conclusively resolved their differences.
Sawant’s lawyer confirmed in court that she had no objections to the dismissal of the FIR. The FIR had been filed on June 11, 2006, after Singh allegedly kissed Sawant forcefully during his birthday celebration at a restaurant in the Mumbai suburbs. The incident received significant media coverage, including video footage and still images from the event.
Singh faced charges under Sections 354 (molestation) and 323 (assault) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) based on Sawant’s complaint. Following the incident, Singh went missing for a few days and subsequently sought anticipatory bail from a sessions court, which was granted on June 17, 2006.
In his petition to the High Court, Singh stated that the dispute between the parties had been resolved, and Sawant had submitted a sworn affidavit expressing no objection to the court granting the requested relief.
Singh’s lawyer, Falguni Brahmabhat, informed the court that the case had been pending for 17 years without any charges being filed. She stated, “Although an indictment has been submitted against the defendant (Singh), accusations have not yet been drafted. Singh and Sawant have buried the hatchet, resolved their differences, and are now on friendly terms.”
Considering the arguments presented, the court dismissed the case.
