CJI Chandrachud Rejects Lawyer’s Appearance Request, Says “Not Here to Generate Revenue for Lawyers”

During a case before a bench led by CJI DY Chandrachud, a lawyer demanded that another advocate’s appearance be recorded on the case’s order sheet. However, the CJI declined, stating that he was aware of the parties involved.

The bench, headed by CJI Chandrachud, maintained that the court cannot record the appearance of an advocate who has not actually appeared in court.

The CJI refused the lawyer’s request, stating that he remembered who had appeared in the case and that the court was not there to generate revenue for solicitors.

“Sorry Ma’am. I remember who appeared in the matter. We are not sitting here to generate revenue for the lawyers. Sorry. We will not do it,” he stated.
