The Senior Assistant Editor and The Economic Times have tendered their apologies to the court. In the meantime, Arnab Goswami, the Editor-in-Chief of Republic TV, has informed the Delhi High Court that he will tender an unreserved apology in a contempt of court case brought against him by RK Pachauri, a former TERI head and environmentalist.
“The counsel for the respondent No. 5 (Arnab Goswami) states that she as well will file an affidavit tendering unconditional apology within a period of one (1) week. It is ordered accordingly,” the Court recorded in its order.
Raghav Ohri, the Senior Assistant Editor, and The Economic Times have already tendered an unconditional apology for the incident.
“The learned counsel for the Respondent Nos. 2 (Economic Times) and 3 (Ohri) states that he has filed an affidavit on behalf of Respondent Nos. 2 and 3, tendering their unconditional apology. Let the same be brought on record within a period of three (3) days,” the Judge ordered.
In the meantime, the attorney representing former NDTV promoter Prannoy Roy stated that he will seek instructions regarding an apology.
In February 2016, Pachauri filed a contempt of court petition with the Delhi High Court against several media outlets for “deliberately and contemptuously” disobeying the court’s orders prohibiting them from publishing sexual harassment claims against him.
He claimed that he was undergoing a media trial and that the publications’ reports were defamatory and prejudiced his case. Goswami was the editor of Times Now at the time the petition was filed, while Roy was the executive co-chairman of NDTV.
While leading the TERI research group, Pachauri was accused of sexually harassing a coworker. His death occurred on February 13, 2020.
