A recent initiative by the Kerala High Court called “Kerala High Court Daily Judgments” or “KHJ-Daily” makes fully certified reported judgments available on a daily basis via WhatsApp.
Chief Justice Ashish J. Desai of the Kerala High Court introduced the specialized service on July 27, 2024, with the goal of ensuring fair access to justice.
The event was graced by Justice A Muhamed Mustaque, as well as members of the Editorial Committee: Justice VG Arun, Justice CS Dias, Joseph Rajesh, the Director of IT, Jubiya A, the Director of the Kerala State Mediation and Conciliation Center, and Rakesh MG, the Deputy Director of IT.
The certified reported judgments of the Kerala High Court shall be made available to judges, the district judiciary, attorneys, legal scholars, and the general public through this daily service.
Launched in January of this year, ‘High Court Chronicles’ is a multilingual monthly newsletter that had popularity before being followed up with this project.
The newsletter’s purpose was to inform the public and the legal community about significant court rulings, events, and legal initiatives.
The High Court Chronicles has grown rapidly since its launch, gaining a sizable following of more than 3,000 WhatsApp users and more than 15,000 email subscribers.
KHJ-Daily will now be distributed via the Chronicles-affiliated WhatsApp groups.
The IT Directorate and the Chronicles Team worked together to create KHJ-Daily.
Through the KJH-Daily project, a committed group of reporters, including an editorial committee, seeks to guarantee the prompt distribution of verdicts.
Advocates S Krishna, Leo Lukose, Gayathri Muraleedharan, Girish Kumar, and Gajendra Singh Rajpurohit make up the editorial support and reporters team.
On a dedicated dashboard, the editorial committee will have quick access to certified verdicts. Following the upload of a reportable verdict, the team will create brief summaries that will be distributed via WhatsApp.
Through the use of technology, the “Kerala High Court Chronicles” and “KHJ – Daily” projects seek to improve legal reporting and teaching while upholding the principles of justice and transparency.
