In an effort to reduce the number of people in Court halls and to curb the spread of Covid-19, the Registrar General of the Madras High Court, P Jothiraman, has urged lawyers and litigants to use video conference mode of hearings as much as possible.
In light of the increasing number of Covid cases across Tamil Nadu, the High Court has announced that hearings will be conducted in a hybrid format starting from April 10th. The Court’s decision to use hybrid hearings is a precautionary measure aimed at reducing footfall and preventing the spread of the virus.
As per the notification, lawyers and litigants appearing as parties-in-person are advised to utilize the video conference facility for case hearings and opt for e-filing in all cases.
“In view of reports citing gradual rise in COVID cases, as ordered, the Madras High Court, as a precautionary measure to reduce the footfalls in the Court halls and the Court campus, resorts to hybrid mode of hearing of cases on a daily/regular basis,” the notification said. The High Court began holding hybrid hearings only on Fridays last month. However, beginning Monday, hybrid hearings will be held on all days until further orders are issued, according to the notification.
