According to HC Mahadevappa, the Minister of Social Welfare, the Constitution provides an opportunity to involve young people in nation-building and treat individuals of all castes and religions equally. As a result, the government of Karnataka has mandated that schools, colleges, and universities include the recitation of the Constitution’s preamble during prayer sessions.
Mahadevappa emphasized the importance of educating the youth about the freedom struggle and the principles and objectives of the Constitution. Specifically, the preamble should be included as mandatory reading in public, aided, and private educational institutions, with a particular focus on students below the age of 18.
He further expressed that the Constitution enables the participation of youth in nation-building and promotes equal respect for all castes and religions. Additionally, reading the Constitution is seen as a means to enhance the moral values of the population.
In addition to the above measure, the cabinet has also decided to display portraits of the preamble in all government and semi-government offices. This includes village panchayat, taluk panchayat, and municipal offices, as agreed upon during the cabinet meeting, as stated by the minister.
