Pulsar Suni, accused in Kerala actress assault case, granted temporary bail

An Ernakulam sessions court granted Sunil NS, also known as Pulsar Suni, temporary bail on March 7 to perform his father’s last rites.

Suni, the prime accused in the 2017 Kerala actress assault case, was given permission to visit his residence in Perumbavoor between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on March 7 by Sessions Judge Honey M Varghese.

The judge also instructed him to only communicate with close relatives and to refrain from contacting witnesses or speaking to the media. Suni filed the plea for bail on March 3, immediately after his father’s demise. In the infamous case, a well-known actress was abducted, photographed, sexually assaulted and driven around in a car, allegedly at the behest of actor Dileep.

Suni was the first accused in the case and is said to have told investigators that prominent figures in the Malayalam film industry, including Dileep, not only played a role in the crime but also planned it. He applied for bail in the Kerala High Court in March 2022, but his request was denied.

He then moved the Supreme Court, which also rejected his bail plea in July 2022. According to the Supreme Court, Suni may seek renewed bail from the High Court if the trial is not completed within a reasonable timeframe. However, on March 6, his bail plea was dismissed again by the High Court.

He subsequently filed an appeal with the Supreme Court on March 29, which is still pending.
