As a lawyer, Soudamini Pethe aimed to bridge the gap between deaf and hearing individuals, recognizing the inequality in their access to resources and environments.
Recently, she became the first deaf lawyer to register with the Bar Council of Delhi and passed the All India Bar Examination (AIBE).
Unfortunately, Pethe passed away on April 22 due to a sudden bout of shortness of breath, before she could celebrate her achievement. Her advocacy on behalf of the deaf community’s challenges earned her recognition.
Pethe was committed to her goal of reducing the gap between the deaf and the hearing population, given the unequal resources and environments they face.
Advocate-on-Record Sanchita Ain, who worked alongside Pethe, fondly recalled her colleague while interviewing her.
