“We expect the respondent to make immediate compliance with the order dated 29th April, 2024 and place the order passed on record,” the judge said.

Justice Oka and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan overturned the State’s decision to refuse the former Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) MLA remission on April 29 since he was guilty of three murders.
After noting that three other criminals placed with Singh had already been given remission, the Court approved Singh’s plea and ordered the UP government to reconsider.
Since the administration didn’t act, Singh filed a contempt of court petition, stating that the State had disobeyed the top court.
Singh’s counsel told the Court on Friday (June 28) that he has served 20 years and 7 months in prison and that the State has not responded to Singh’s application for remission despite the supreme court’s April 29 instruction.
The Court notified the State government to swiftly decide the remission plea.
“In the meanwhile, we extend the interim bail granted to the petitioner under order dated 29th April, 2024 till the returnable date (July 26),” it said.
Advocates Sanjay Singh and Divyesh Pratap Singh represented Singh.
