In a petition challenging Kangana Ranaut’s election from the Mandi constituency in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Himachal Pradesh High Court on Wednesday (Laik Ram Negi v. Kangana Ranaut & Anr) issued notice to the actress.
The matter was posted by Justice Jyostna Rewal Dua for August 21.
According to reports, Laik Ram Negi, a resident of Kinnaur, submitted the appeal alleging that his nomination papers to run for the Mandi Lok Sabha constituency were unjustly denied.
Negi, a former forest department employee, claims that he retired early and submitted a “no dues certificate” from the department to the returning officer in conjunction with his nomination papers.
Nevertheless, he was granted a single day to obtain no-dues certificates from the electricity, water, and telephone departments. The returning officer did not accept his nomination documents, despite the fact that he submitted them.
Negi has requested that the election be annulled, asserting that he could have won the election if his papers had been accepted.
The Mandi constituency was won by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Ranaut, who defeated Congress candidate Vikramaditya Singh by 74,755 votes.
Negi was represented by advocate Sanjeev Kumar Suri.
The Returning Officer was represented by Senior Advocate Ankush Dass Sood and Advocate Arjun Lal.
