Time and Financial Constraints: Justice PS Narasimha Highlights Challenges of Case Listings in Supreme Court

Justice Narasimha raised concerns about the scheduling of cases during court vacations and the subsequent requests for adjournments by parties involved. During a recent session on Wednesday, the Supreme Court expressed frustration with the nonchalant manner in which lawyers seek postponements for their cases.

In one instance, an attorney approached a vacation bench presided over by Justice PS Narasimha, requesting a postponement for a case they were handling. However, Justice Narasimha stressed the importance of recognizing that listing cases before the Supreme Court involves significant time and resources, and should not be taken lightly. He expressed his unease about cases being scheduled during court vacations, only for parties to subsequently request adjournments.

Addressing the attorneys, he remarked, “Each case listed before the Supreme Court requires time and resources. You cannot be so casual with cases. You’ve all mentioned the cases and listed them in the vacations, and now you’re asking for a postponement.”

Consequently, Justice Narasimha declined the request for a postponement and instructed the attorney to thoroughly study the case documents and appear before the court for the hearing.
