A plea to register a first information report (FIR) against Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi for their comments regarding the ongoing Kashi Vishwanath-Gyanvapi Mosque case was dismissed by a Varanasi sessions court on Tuesday.
Advocate Harishankar Pandey’s revision plea, which sought to file a First Information Report (FIR) against the two leaders, was denied by Sessions Judge Vinod Kumar.
After noting that no cognizable offense was made out against leaders as alleged in the petition, a magistrate court dismissed the plea moved by Pandey in February 2023.
This prompted Pandey to relocate the sessions court.
Pandey alleged that both leaders were attempting to degrade the atmosphere of Varanasi by inciting religious sentiments through their controversial remarks regarding the object discovered within the Gyanvapi Mosque, which is purported to be a Shiva Linga.
He contended that these leaders were attempting to manipulate the emotions of the populace in order to secure ballots, despite the Supreme Court’s failure to provide a response.
His plea also asserted that the leaders’ “objectionable remarks” regarding the Shiva Linga “hurt the sentiments” of Hindus.
